MECCANO – 1960/70s best French Meccano Sets No 1 & No IA. Metal Building Construction Game in original boxes – Made in France. Steampunk.

Rare Meccano Box Set No 1 and complementary Box 1A from the 1960's. Pieces are in good condition but have been played with, so there are a few scuffs and paint loss on some parts. Sets contain blue girders, blue and burgundy plates, gold strips, various cogs, wheels, and spanners and a small box containing metal rods. Can be used to build a crane as shown on the box.

The ideas for Meccano were first conceived by Hornby in 1898 and he developed and patented a construction kit as "Mechanics Made Easy" in 1901. The name was later changed to "Meccano" (notice the inverted italic O at the end) and manufactured by the British company, Meccano Ltd between 1908 and 1980.

Meccano consists of reusable metal strips, plates, angle girders, wheels, axles and gears, and high quality plastic parts that are connected together using nuts, bolts and set screws (also known as grub screws). It enables the building of working models and mechanical devices.
